Regarding xmas_rocks for 2012

Hello all,

As should probably be obvious at this point, I will not be organizing an xmas_rocks exchange for this year. Given the difficulty in the past couple years getting enough signups and matching requests, it just doesn't seem like it would work out. However, if someone else is interested in taking over the challenge, please feel free to contact me and we can work something out.

In the meantime, for those interested in exchanging/writing some bandfic this year for the holidays, may I suggest...

1. Yuletide nominations are open until Wednesday, October 3. Please consider nominating your favorite rockbands & musicians as certainly many of our favorite rarer fandoms would qualify.

2. The Very Kinky Rockfic Ficmas Fest. A no-committment holiday exchange - you can wish for fic/pairings without having to commit to writing one in exchange. Though that of course is always nice! So there's nothing lost in getting your most wished-for pairings/fic ideas requested, and you just might get a great story out of it (or be inspired to write something you wouldn't have before). "Kink", by the way, is purely optional.

The Requested Pairing List - with Prompts!

Well, with a few prompts, anyway :)

Here is the list once again of all of the pairings which were originally nominated for this year's exchange. Beginning December 18th I'll open the community up for everyone/anyone who wishes to post fills for any of these requested pairings, and it will stay open until January 5, 2012. If you requested one of these pairings and would like to add specific prompts to them, please feel free to email me at sidewinder72@earthlink.net and I'll add them to this master list. Oh, and if you'd like to add your own prompts to a pairing that already has one listed, do feel free to do so.

Should we add the names of who requested which pairings here or not? I could go either way on that, but of course one would just need to look at the original nominations posts to see that info as well.

Requested Pairings for xmas_rocks 2011/2012

  7. Guns'n'Roses (Axl Rose/Slash)
  8. The Hoosiers (Irwin Sparkes/Al Sharland)
    • Something inspired by the "Bumpy Ride" video - either behind-the-scenes while the guys were touring around the American West filming it, or taking the story of the video as the basis of a fic (really, why WON'T Irwin look Al in the eye after what happened?)

  9. Machine Head (Robb Flynn/Phil Demmell)
  10. Manic Street Preachers (James Dean Bradfield/Nicky Wire)
  11. Manic Street Preachers (Richey Edwards/Nicky Wire)

  22. The Police (Stewart Copeland/Andy Summers)
    • Something a little kinky, please, because Andy just strikes me as a total perv. That said I'm really not into hardcore BDSM stuff, so more like toys, spanking, voyeurism, handcuffs....

Change of plans! xmas_rocks for this year

Hey folks,

So as per my last post, we only had three completed sign-ups for this year - yet some people were still interested in seeing SOMETHING happen this year for xmas_rocks.

Therefore this is what I'm proposing, after "brainstorming" a bit over the Thanksgiving weekend.

Instead of a strict swap of story-for-story, I'm going to repost the list of requested pairings later today. Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to write a story, ficlet, drabble, whatever, for any of these requested pairings as might tickle your fancy. It doesn't have to be 1,000 words, though of course it can be much longer than that as well.

Beginning the week before Christmas (December 18), I will open this community up so that anyone can post. You will have between December 18, 2011 - January 5, 2012 to post your fills for any of the requested pairings on the list! They won't be anonymous, so we're getting rid of the Secret Santa aspect of the exchange. But I'm sure everyone who offered up pairings they'd like to read would enjoy the gift of any story you'd choose to write for them.

After the 5th, I'll archive the submitted stories at bandfic unless no archiving is requested.

How's that sound? Hopefully this will make it easier for some people to participate and perhaps see some stories this year after all. If people would like to add specific prompts to their requests, I can add those also to the listing once I post it.

Regarding sign-ups and this year's challenge

So, it is actually 12 days past the original deadline for sign-ups, and the delay has been largely because I am unsure what should be done at this point.

We only had three people sign-up before the deadline this year - not enough to make more than one potential match on requests and offers. I was hoping a few stragglers might show up past the deadline, but no dice.

Therefore the question is whether to consider the exchange dead in the water for this year? Or are there enough people who just forgot to sign up in time to try to extend the deadline any further? I really need to know in the next few days or else we'll just have to say "better luck next year" at this point.

Official Sign-Up Post!

First off - apologies for being late with this - life kind of kicked me in the butt and limited my net access a bit in the past week. But we're ready to begin official sign ups now, so here's everything you need to know...

Please read the sign-up instructions closely and make sure to include all of your information. Your sign-up will not be accepted unless it is complete.

Official Pairings Nominations Post

This is it--the official pairings nomination post!

Please comment below with up to 8 pairings you would like to nominate for this year's xmas_rocks exchange. They might be pairings you're planning on requesting yourself because you'd like to read them--or maybe they're pairings you'd like to write if someone sees them on the list and goes, "Oh, that would be interesting!"

Remember that nominating pairings does not commit you to signing up for the exchange; you've got plenty more time ahead for that. But if you're even considering participating, please nominate your pairings now to make sure they'll make it to the final eligibility list. You also don't have to nominate all 8 at once--if you have one or two ideas for now, please feel free to send them in, then add the rest of your nominations later.

As per the F.A.Q., please follow this format when nominating your pairings:

Band Name (Band Member A's full name/Band Member B's full name)
Crossover (Band Member A's full name, Band/Band Member B's full name, Band)
Crossover (Band Member A's full name, Band/Solo Artist B's full name)

For instance, one person's nomination list might look like:

1. The Beatles (John Lennon/Paul McCartney)
2. The Beatles (John Lennon/George Harrison)
3. The Beatles (Johh Lennon/Brian Epstein (Beatles' manager))
4. The Who (Pete Townshend/Roger Daltrey)
5. Foo Fighters (Dave Grohl/Taylor Hawkins)
6. Crossover (Pete Townshend, The Who/Roger Waters, Pink Floyd)
7. Crossover (Mick Jagger, The Rolling Stones/David Bowie)
8. Crossover (David Bowie/Elton John)

Please see the F.A.Q. for full rules on who and what can be nominated.

Give full names and not just first names or pairing nicknames/abbreviations, please! I don't know all the nicknames for every pairing out there, and this will save me having to ask you for further information before accepting or declining a nomination.

I will update this post with a list of accepted nominations as they come in, so you can see easily what pairings are on the list already. If something's already on the nominations list, you don't have to request it again! So please check the list over first before sending in your requests.

If you don't have a Dreamwidth or Livejournal account, you can also send me your nominations directly at sidewinder72@earthlink.net, just put "xmas_rocks" somewhere in your subject line.

Now let's get started!

You have until October 4 to submit your nominations!
